Whether you’re working with containers, vertical planters, or pocket gardens, you’ll learn how to grow fresh herbs, veggies, and flowers right in the heart of the city. Perfect for beginners or anyone looking to bring a little nature into their urban lifestyle, this class covers smart space design, plant selection, sustainable practices, and year-round maintenance. No backyard required—just a little creativity and a green thumb in the making!

Audience Target: Adults and teens ages 10+ interested in gardening or growing food in limited spaces. No prior gardening experience required.

Format: Classroom Lecture

Workshop Benefits/Learning Outcomes:

  • Design and Plan a Productive Urban Garden – Participants will learn how to maximize small spaces using containers, vertical gardening, and creative layouts.
  • Select and Grow Suitable Plants for Urban Environments – Participants will identify plants that thrive in limited light, space, and soil conditions.
  • Implement Sustainable Gardening Practices – Participants will understand eco-friendly methods such as composting, rainwater harvesting, and organic pest control.
  • Maintain a Healthy Garden Year-Round – Participants will gain skills in seasonal care, plant nutrition, and troubleshooting common urban gardening challenges.

Presenter: Stephanie Wells is an urban agriculturist who enjoys creating edible ecosystems for both people and wildlife. She works closely with communities facing food insecurities to grow healthy, sustainable food. In her spare time, Stephanie likes to volunteer her time with various community organizations that focus on resolving the food crisis that is present in some communities. She has an A.A.S in Horticulture and is currently pursuing a B.S. in Agriculture Education-Professional Service.
