Description: Farmers and gardeners have grown heirloom vegetables over generations cultivating them for flavor, nutrients, cultural heritage and genetic diversity. Today we’re losing many of these amazing local varieties to plants whose sole advantage is their easy cultivation on a larger scale. Heirloom vegetables are “living artifacts” that have withstood the test of time.
In this lunchtime workshop, we’ll explore the benefits of growing heirloom vegetables, saving seeds and comparing different varieties. We’ll also taste test different heirloom vegetables and visit the Heritage vegetable garden.
