SUMMARY:Healing with Nature: Exploring Medicinal Plants
DESCRIPTION:Take a deep dive into the world of natural remedies in this engaging workshop on medicinal plants and their healing properties. Learn to identify common medicinal herbs\, understand their traditional and modern uses\, and discover how to safely incorporate them into your daily wellness routine. From calming teas to skin-soothing salves\, participants will explore practical applications of plant-based healing through expert guidance. Participants will leave with samples of herbal remedies with instructions on how to make your own salves and tinctures. \nAudience Target:\nAdults and teens ages 10+. Ideal for herbal beginners\, wellness enthusiasts\, and anyone curious about the power of plants to support health and vitality. \nFormat:\nSeminar \nWorkshop Benefits/Learning Outcomes: \n\nEvaluate Therapeutic Properties: Attendees will be able to categorize plants based on their primary “healing actions”—such as anti-inflammatories\, adaptogens\, or nervines—and explain how these properties support specific body systems.\nImplement Safety and Ethical Guidelines: Participants will develop a personal “Safety Protocol\,” including how to cross-reference plant use with existing medications\, identifying toxic look-alikes\, and practicing sustainable wild-harvesting to protect local plant populations.\nDifferentiate Between Plant Parts and Potency: Participants will be able to explain why certain plant parts (e.g.\, the root vs. the flower) are harvested at specific times to ensure the highest concentration of active compounds.\nAnalyze Methods of Absorption: Participants will be able to describe the different pathways (such as ingestion\, inhalation\, and topical absorption) through which medicinal plant compounds enter the bloodstream\, and how each delivery method affects the speed and duration of the plant’s therapeutic impact.\n\nFee:\n$25\, $15 for members. \nRegistration: Pre-registration encouraged\, in-person ticket sales end when the garden closes.  https://shop.capefearbg.org/SelectEvent.aspx?eventID=1000040 \n  \nPresenter:  Chad Shelby has been studying Horticulture since 2018.
