SUMMARY:FULL: Barn Quilt Art Workshop
DESCRIPTION:This event has reached capacity and tickets are no longer available. \nDiscover the colorful tradition of barn quilts in this hands-on workshop at the Garden. Participants will join artist Carole Phipps and “helper” Carson to create their own painted barn quilt design while learning about the history and artistry behind this beloved folk art. \nNo experience is necessary– just bring your creative spirit and leave with a unique piece to display at home and inspiration drawn from the garden’s natural beauty. \nFee Includes:\n● A 24″x24″ board made of ACM (aluminum composite material – similar to road signs).\n● Your choice of one of the six patterns.\n● All necessary tools and supplies to paint the barn quilt.\n● Lunch and refreshments during the session.\n● Guidance from experienced artist Carole Phipps\n● Access to the garden after the workshop. \nDate: Saturday\, September 19\, 2026\nTime: 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM\nFee: $125 \nTICKETS NO LONGER AVAILABLE \nYou will pick one of these six patterns prior to the event\, so the design is ready for you day-of. But alternative colors may be selected during the workshop.\n\n \n\n\nAbout the instructor: Carole Phipps began her barn quilt journey in January\, 2023 when she retired from Sampson Community College as a mathematics instructor. She was drawn to barn quilts because of the close ties this art form has to her love of geometry. She uses her math skills to draw patterns on her barn quilt panels. To date\, she has painted more than 150 barn quilts and has them hanging in 7 states. Recently she facilitated a barn quilt painting workshop that was sponsored by the Sampson County Arts Council. Participants chose patriotic patterns on pre-drawn panels to paint as part of the America 250 celebration. She gives much credit for her success to her husband\, Carson\, who does most of the behind the scenes\, unseen work of barn quilts. He will be assisting her in our Birds and Blooms Barn Quilts Workshop sponsored by the Cape Fear Botanical Gardens.
