DESCRIPTION:Outdoor adventure for the whole family! Discover life under the water as we use nets to look for small fish\, tadpoles\, freshwater shrimp\, and dragonfly nymphs. Please dress for the possibility of getting muddy! \nWhat to Expect: \n\nBrief introduction to common aquatic species\, their life cycles\, and connections between aquatic life and water quality\nReview of safety rules while pond dipping\nAround 1 hour of active pond dipping time.\nPlease wear clothes to get muddy. You will be dipping from the edge of the pond so a swimsuit is not necessary.\n\nWho Should Attend: Families of all ages and sizes are welcome. Children of all ages can participate with locating and holding pond animals\, while children ages 6+ will be able to independently hold and handle our pond nets. \nFamily Programs \nOur family programs are designed for individuals of all ages to immerse themselves in the wonders of nature. DESCRIPTION:Register Here \nDaylily Propagation Workshop and Plant Sale\nJune 28 9am -12pm. \nParticipants will learn three methods to propagate daylilies: dividing clumps\, rooting proliferations\, and making seed. The first two methods are asexual methods of propagation and yield plants identical to the parent plant. Come prepared to get dirty as you will help divide a clump and replant part of it in the garden. \nThe basics of hybridizing daylilies will be demonstrated and discussion of how to choose parents and how to select seedlings will depend on participants’ interest level. \nParticipant will receive two fans from the clump they help divide and also a small package of seeds they can plant at home. \nA daylily sale will be ongoing during the workshop. \nFee: $15 ($5 for members) — Register Here \nAdmission and registration not required if you only want to purchase daylilies. \n***\nPresenter: Dr. Linda Sue Barnes\, retired Professor of Biology at Methodist University\, is a longtime gardener and loyal member of the volunteer group at the Cape Fear Botanical Garden. She serves the garden in a plethora of capacities\, including leading adult and children’s tours and tending the daylilies. Together with many Garden volunteers and staff\, Linda Sue was instrumental in creating the Daylily Garden and she continues to be invaluable in the maintenance of the Garden as it exists today.
