Volunteers are the heart of Cape Fear Botanical Garden, playing a vital role in bringing our mission to life. Whether you enjoy engaging with visitors, working with plants, assisting with education programs, or supporting special events, there’s a place for you in our volunteer community.
With opportunities year-round, both indoors and outdoors, volunteering at the Garden is a great way to learn new skills, meet like-minded people, and give back to a space that inspires thousands of visitors each year.
For those looking for a regular, long-term commitment, ongoing volunteers play an essential role in the Garden’s daily operations. This is a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience, learn from experts, and become part of a passionate team. Volunteers commit to a weekly or biweekly schedule, enjoy enriching social and educational experiences, and may have opportunities to take on leadership roles in events and programs.
To make a meaningful impact, we encourage ongoing volunteers to commit to at least 40 hours per year—whether through weekly shifts, seasonal projects, or event support.
If a regular commitment isn’t for you, consider volunteering for a single event! These one-time opportunities allow you to support the Garden while experiencing our most popular seasonal events, such as:
Looking for a meaningful team-building experience? Group volunteering is a great way for businesses, civic groups, or service organizations to make a tangible impact in just one day. Whether you’re planting seasonal blooms, helping with trail maintenance, or prepping for a big event, your group will work together, get outside, and give back to a place that brings joy to thousands each year. Projects can be tailored to your group size and interests, and we’ll provide all the tools and guidance you need.
Designed for students ages 13-17, our youth volunteer program provides opportunities to earn service hours, build skills, and explore environmental careers.
Teens are also invited to apply for Special Event opportunities.
Becoming a volunteer is easy! Simply complete an application and schedule a time to meet with our Volunteer Coordinator for orientation and training.
Thank you for your interest in volunteering at Cape Fear Botanical Garden. Please note that we do not have opportunities for Community Service hours. All volunteers must be over the age of 16 to volunteer without an adult partner.
