About the instructor: Carole Phipps began her barn quilt journey in January, 2023 when she retired from Sampson Community College as a mathematics instructor. She was drawn to barn quilts because of the close ties this art form has to her love of geometry. She uses her math skills to draw patterns on her barn quilt panels. To date, she has painted more than 150 barn quilts and has them hanging in 7 states. Recently she facilitated a barn quilt painting workshop that was sponsored by the Sampson County Arts Council. Participants chose patriotic patterns on pre-drawn panels to paint as part of the America 250 celebration. She gives much credit for her success to her husband, Carson, who does most of the behind the scenes, unseen work of barn quilts. He will be assisting her in our Birds and Blooms Barn Quilts Workshop sponsored by the Cape Fear Botanical Gardens.
